Fruity Smarties

Brace yourself, for what I'm about to reveal will boggle your mind. Ready for it? Ok - these Fruity Smarties actually contain no chocolate!! In fact, they've morphed into Skittles. Yep, chewy fruity candy that only bears resemblance to Smarties from its box and bright colors.
Totally unsuspecting when I popped a few in my mouth, I thought it would be chocolate with fruit candy coating. I had to do a double take on the ingrediant list when I tasted tang... No chocolate sad
Well I can't post a review on these 'cause I immediately tossed 'em away - and I got you reading to here for nothing wink Just want to give a heads up to those who think they're getting chocolate when they buy these!

OhHenry! Pro

Last Friday I had a few minutes before my movie started, so I headed to a Dollarama next to the theatre. Lo-and-behold there was a stock of these OhHenry! Pro bars in the candy aisle. I was totally oblivious to the existence of these!
Doing a little comparison with the original OhHenry! and OhHenry! PeanutButter, I wanted to see if indeed this bar lives up to its suggestive name.
Original Oh!Henry: 17g fat, 36g carbs, 6g protein
OhHenry! Pro: 21g fat, 25g carbs, 12g protein
Oh!Henry PeanutButter: 20g fat, 29g carbs, 8g protein
Oh but how does the taste stack up? It composes of peanuts, caramel, peanutbutter, & milk chocolate. It's like a cross between the original and peanutbutter versions! So far I don't see anything that can account for the additional protein. I fear it'll taste like the over-sweet, with under-crunchy peanuts, fake chocolate - protein bars.
But it doesn't!! In fact it tastes alot like the OhHenry! PeanutButter, with a little less peanutbutter taste. Truthfully I wouldn't otherwise notice a difference, it's really good!
So what's the deal, where does the extra protein come in? Ingrediant list reads: Peanuts, Sugar, Oil, Soy Protein Isolate... aha! There it is. Soy Protein and Whey Protein Isolate, though not contributing to the taste and texture (thank goodness!) contributes to the higher protein content. Interestingly, there's no actual peanut butter in the list of ingrediants. There is, however, sorbital which gives 1g of Sugar Alcohols to the bar.
Aware of the higher fat content, I'm still tempted to stock up on these - they taste 500% better than your best tasting protein bar, and cost 400% less (I just pulled those numbers out of my head wink)

Terry's Chocolate Orange

Terry's Chocolate Orange has always been a Christmas-time thing. It's the gift you can "whack and unwrap". Who would guess breaking chocolate can be such an enjoyable experience - except when you don't manage to break all the slices apart. Which with my whacking abilities has never happened before... Anyway I realize I haven't had a Terry's Chocolate Orange in years.
These individual packs of the famous chocolate fruit are just catching on in Canada, though they still look kind of out of place in the candy aisles. This particular one, however, is from the UK - where the whole chocolate orange thing originated. I'm excited to see if it tastes different from the ones I've ate in the past.
The fun of whacking the orange isn't an option here. Soo I content myself with marveling at the bar's unique appearance. It looks cute with its 6 sections, that actually resembles orange slices. razz Snapping apart each segment fills some of the void from missing a good whack.
I don't think this chocolate would survive a whacking if it was required. The chocolate is much softer than the ones from Canada, and melts very easily. Mmm but also much creamier, and not as waxy. The orange flavor is more subtle, and not artificial tasting at all.
Good as it may be, I think I'll leave the Chocolate Orange as a Christmas-time thing. The just-fruit and chocolate-ness can be a bit plain, or too sophisticated, for regular eating... if that makes sense.

Cadbury Picnic

Deja-vu eek Don't worry I'm not having memory lapses, I remember already reviewing Cadbury's Picnic. There are a few differences between the earlier, and this one now. Apart from the apparent different wrappers, the earlier is made by Cadbury UK and this by Cadbury Australia. The UK version contains rice crisps, peanuts, caramel, and raisins. This Aussi one has wafers, peanuts, and caramel.
This Picnic is alot like Nestle's Lion (and you thought I would say alot like the other Picnic wink) There's a similar wafer center surrounded by a layer of caramel. Unlike some other bars, the peanuts in the Picnic surrounds the whole bar, not just on the top.
The wafer is light and doesn't have much taste, while the caramel is chewy-hard. My favorite part of the bar is the peanuts & milk chocolate - tastes alot like chocolate covered peanuts if you eat those apart The bland wafers make this bar not very sweet, though the peanuts make this 50g bar filling.
And my preference between this or the UK version? Mmm I would give it to this one. Sorry Cadbury UK, I don't have a taste for raisins.

Gimme Your Stuff - First Swap Complete!

I'm ecstatic to have just finished my first Gimme Your Stuff swap. And a chocolate-only swap at that, how lovely. Despite the 30degree weather here this week, the chocolates arrived relatively intact. Thanks to Jean from England, I now have a nice selection of UK chocolate bars. Hope she'll enjoy the ones from Canada razz Mmm the Creme Egg Bars I hoped for are even included, yay!

KitKat Temptations Hazelnut Praline

I'm excited to finally get to try the Temptations line of KitKats from Australia. Thanks to my mom who went on vacation there, and brought back a KitKat Temptations Hazelnut Praline!
Instead of the infamous wafer fingers, each Temptations is sectioned into 5 tablets. And each piece filled with a thin layer of wafer and one of the 3 Tempations flavors: Coconut Eclair, Hazelnut Praline, and Caramel Fudge.
From the image on the wrapper, I expect hazelnut pieces in the praline, but nope. The filling is all smooth hazelnut paste, mmm. The chocolate covering is really rich and melty (or maybe because of the hot day). There's more praline than wafer, which is a complete change - KitKats are all about the wafers! No complaints here, I really like the low-wafer presence deal going on.
Descrition on the wrapper says Tempting Hazelnut Praline & Wafer Smothered in Milk Chocolate. Looking for the usual Have a break, have a KitKat phrase - it's not on the wrapper. These Temptations are steering away from the snack theme into a dessert theme. This fancier version of KitKat is amoung my favorite so far.

Schluckwerder Edelmarzipan Rumtruffel

My previous two marzipan bars were fantastic, soo this 3rd time around should be a charm. I'm curious for this Schluckwerder Edelmarzipan Rumtruffel from Germany. Edelmarzipan mit Rumtrauben gefullt mit Rumtruffel in Milchschokolade, or in other words, Chocolate filled with fine marzipan and rum raisins and rum truffle. A+ in German 101! Just kidding, there's English translation on the back <span class=
Why does marzipan tend to be heavy? This bar comes in at 75g - hey more marzipan goodness right! Unwrapping and taking a bite from the bar, I'm immediately hit with SWEET. And not sweet in a good way like "sweet!". But sweet like "I need some water!"
The thin layer of marzipan lacks marzipan taste. Instead, there is overwhelming sugariness from the rum truffle and rum raisins. Oh, I do taste the 5% rum. And it hits me - this bar tastes allot like eating DATES! A paste of date and raisins *shudder. Kind of like eating just the filling of a Fig Newton bar. The milk chocolate coating doesn't remedy this disastrous concoction.
And my streak of good marzipan chocolate stops at its track here. I still have a dark chocolate version of this bar... which I'm going to hide in the back of the fridge for a while eek

Cherry Ripe

Well now I don't know what to expect from Cadbury's Cherry Ripe. It's a popular bar hailing from the down under. I'm not a fan of chocolate covered cherries, or the Bounty bar - and the Cherry Ripe is an infusion of both, should be fun biggrin
Opening the wrapper, right away the smell reminds me of dark chocolate covered cherries. A rippley dark chocolate shell enrobes cherry flavored coconut filling. I'm surprised it's good! It's the cherry factor that makes all the difference. You can taste the cherry from the coconut filling, and also from pieces of cherries that have been magically injected inside. Don't you just love the pink colored filling - I know I do!
When it comes to the name, I have no clue where the second half of it comes from - Cherry is a given, but Ripe.. hmm I don't know if the cherries were that ripe. At least it's not randomly named after someone (looking in your direction Mr Big... Mr Oh Henry..)
